It’s time to part with 2014 and welcome in a brand new year. You’ve got the makeup, the shoes and the invitation. But what to wear? Make it memorable and don’t be afraid to dare with some edge pieces and fabrics. From lace to metallic, here are some ideas:

Glitterati – Available in many shades from black to pink blush, sequin dresses are hot. It’s the one must-have piece in your wardrobe. Make sure the length shows off your legs; not too short, and not below the knee. Opt for the open back cut for added ‘wow’ factor.

Romantic Lace – Some ladies prefer their lace in small doses – little accents along the sleeve or at the hem – others plunge into a sea of romance, and why not when you’re welcoming a new year? It’s super romantic and elegant and lets you show just the right amount of skin without overdoing it.

Beaded – A cousin of the sequin dress, beads are equally elegant and work well either as a mini dress or in mid-length version. This is one sensual piece so you’ll feel comfortable with the high neck styles – they give some mystery and are reminiscent of Victorian chic.

Dusted Velvet – A definite head turner, velvet naturally highlights your curves so make sure you’ve got a good hip & tummy hugger to keep the lines smooth along the side. Deep open backs or deep V-necks at the front are dramatic and unforgettable. Opt for a one piece – fitted in the right places – either above the knee or long and and romantic.

Two Piece – If the all-sequin look isn’t your style, don’t fret. You can still make one memorable entrance with a curve enhancing, sequin or velvet skirt paired with a solid, semi-sheer top and heels.

Chiffon – If you’re more on the traditional end of the fashion map, then chiffon is a great option. Chiffon along the sleeves are romantic and give the illusion of long arms. Keep the cut straight but fitted enough, and the length short and flirty to accentuate your legs.

Fringe – This more the merrier with the fringe, best worn as a strappy dress which is feminine and 1920s sexy. It’s a good opportunity to take out your grandmother’s long pearls and make it a classic – you can even let them cascade down the back.
